Oliver Charles, Designer, ACIHort
Oliver grew up in Norfolk and has an established theatre design and production career that is well-suited for designing gardens. He founded Oliver Charles Gardens & Associates Limited to share his passion for landscapes and gardens.
Oliver is an associate designer member with the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CHort), promoting best practices in horticulture. He is also part of the Norfolk Gardens Trust, a charity that protects gardens and designed landscapes in Norfolk.
Oliver recalls visiting historic houses and gardens throughout the country, which sparked his passion for landscape design. Oliver holds a degree in theatre production, has had a successful career in stage lighting at the National Theatre in London, and studied garden design and horticulture.
Oliver has leveraged his spatial awareness and storytelling skills from his experience in stage lighting to transition into landscape and planting design. He has built his business by drawing connections between the garden design process and his previous work in production at the BBC.
Oliver has traced his roots to the historic village of Surlingham, located on the Norfolk Broads. He returns to Norwich to leverage his unique experiences and bring value and creativity to his native city. By returning home, he aims to expand his business, reconnect with his heritage, and leave a lasting legacy.
Oliver works at Peter Beales Roses in Attleborough, advising visitors on choosing, planting and caring for roses, along with over 5 years of professional experience working in horticulture retail, landscaping and garden maintenance in London and North Norfolk.
